“The Extremely Flavourful and Delicious-Ilish Fish Festival”
Ilish fish is considered as the queen of fish because of it’s strong distinctive delicious and oily marine flavor.It is one of the most popular fish because of its rich taste.The passion for the bony fish is more during the monsoon. And so as monsoons are here, the renowned Bengali Restaurant chain 6 Ballygunge Place, Guwahati is hosting the ILISH festival to go perfectly with the season for the fish lovers.The festival started on 1st of August and will continue for the entire month.
The menu for the month long festival is specially designed by celebrity chef Sushanta Sengupta.9 varieties of ilish fish preparations are designed in the menu of this festival.The restaurant hosted a food bloggers table and got to taste all of them and I must admit that it just blew my mind.Sharing my experience about this wonderful fish festival.The menu is very inviting and its surely gonna make the ilish lovers happy.
BONELESS MANGO ILISH ROLL
The name says it all why it is in the top of the list.Don’t fear for bones and just enjoy it.It comes with a delicious filling of the fish and mango with a crunchy crust.This was the star for me and I thoroughly enjoyed it with the tamarind and mint chutney.Do try it for sure this one.The best part is if you take kids, they can enjoy this one without fearing for bones.
GOBINDOBHOG ILISH
This is another star from the menu.The Gobindohog long grain rice is cooked in ilish stock to give a strong flavor of fish.The fish is separately cooked in spices in a gravy and then later both the rice and fish are combined and slow cooked for a while to infuse more flavors.This is a sure try for all fish lovers.I first thought it to be fish biryani but its not and the marine flavor of the ilish is so prominent that you all keep on asking for more.This was a kind of complete meal that you someone can opt for.
LANKA BATA ILISH
Don’t go by the name Lanka(chili).This is not so spicy but it definitely has a strong combo flavor of chilies and the fish.And I really loved this one too.The fish is cooked in a paste of Jaipur green chilies and spices.Don’t miss these top three fish preparation in the menu.The taste of this one very perfect for me.I would try this one with plain rice.Perfect combo.

NARIKEL BHAPA ILISH
This is the only steamed preparation.It’s steamed in a paste of mustard seeds and coconut.The coconut paste brings down the strong flavor of mustard and brings up the flavor of the fish more.This is mild in taste but it is flavourful.This is for the crazy steamed fish lovers.
AAM KASUNDI ILISH
The aroma is strong and appetizing but the flavor is mild and little sweet.This didn’t impress me much.The fish flavor was prominent but the sweet taste didn’t bring a smile on my face.The aroma invited me so much but the taste was average.
THE FOLLOWING ARE THE PREPARATIONS WHICH I LIKED BUT NOT LOVED :
The ambiance was very cozy and comfortable.The preparations were very awesomely presented.And I just loved the use of banana leaf in the presentation of each preparation.The overall experience in 6 BALLYGUNGE PLACE with fellow bloggers and reviewers was amazing.Will surely recommend foodies to go with their family and friends to experience this month long ILISH FESTIVAL.
